my brother found a baby salamander what to do2007-11-24 2:01:37

so my brother came running home with this baby salamander, he and his friends caught running in the house. he wants to keep it, but we have no clue on how to take care of it.any help?

Salamanders come in a few categories- semi-aquatic, terrestrial, and burrowing. You need to figure out the species first so you can find the care guidelines. Try googling '(your state) salamanders' (or amphibians) to see if it helps- a nearby state's list will help also.

As far as care- first, think about letting it go. it is tough on an animal to be captured and removed from its native habitat- they do nto do as well as a captive-bred speciman would.

If you decide to keep it anyway, use the specis name ot search for a good care sheet.

Ecologically, keeping it is the same as killing it, since it wont produce offspring in the wild. Release it at a creek or stream.

Call your local vet ASAP!. Get it tested 1st & then go to Pet Smart or anyother store to get help from a representative. They will tell you what it need.
