my chinese water dragon2007-11-24 2:01:38

ok so my boyfriend and i got our dragon about 2 weeks ago and we got everything that all the online stuff said to get for him. we have a nice tank with a good lighting and a large water bowl for him to swim in. I really have 2 questions. 1st. we've given him crickets and he ate a few at first and we've given him fruit but now he doesn't seem to be eating as much. what can i do to help him? and 2nd occasionally he will get up on the rim of his water bowl and puff up his throat, bob his head and do a funny waving motion with his arm. is that normal?? thank you so much for the help!

i personaly have 2 dragons of my own they are magnificant pets. they will eventually eat greens and fruits but they should be cut up pretty small. You should also try feeding them wax worms mine love them. about the behavoir it is totally normal and mine did the exact same thing.

it sounds to me like he is just adjusting to his new surroundings they do take a while to settle down just give him a little time. The head bobbing is just a way of asserting his dominance over you what you need to do is ignore it and show youre not bothered. Its just like a defense thing. once he realises youre not gonna hurt him he will stop.
mine did that too dont worry he is looking and feeling his new surrondings th best thing you can do is kep him in his cag and let him ajust and lt me warn you if he gets out they are very fast and can hide any where so be careful and clean his watr every day with a special water conditioner kee[ his tank clean every week and give him a lt of love good luck!! they are the best
if he is a baby it is normal for him to bob his head and wave, mine did that to but im not sure about the food
Water dragons seldom eat their fruit and veggies. Make sure his/her temps are about 80-88 with a 90 basking area, and temps should be in the low to mid 70's at night. The humidity should be around 80%. The arm waving and head bobbing is normal. It's their way of communicating. If he is shedding he may lose interest in his food. Make sure the size of his food is not too large for him.
