my golden gecko wont eat since he day we brought him home from the pet store,2007-11-24 2:01:43

we've tried crickets but he lost his tail the day we brought him home is there some thing else we should try, what am i doing wrong?

Answers:

He needs calcium. I would go to the vet and you can get reptile calcium in liquid form. If he get calcium deficiency he will not eat, and that is deadly. I had to get the liquid calcium for my bearded when he went on an eating strike and it was only $7.00. I would not wait though, this could potentially be serious. Always dust his crickets with calcium so he will not get deficient in the future. This is not your fault, there are a lot of pet stores that just do not have the time to properly take care of reptiles. If you have any more questions you may contact me!

He probably in shock. I think you should give him food and water and leave him alone for a couple of days.

I used to have a gecko some years ago that wasn't eating just after I got him and moved him to my house. He lived on a diet of live meal worms which I am afraid I had to force feed him every day for a few weeks. I used a pair of forceps to pick up the worm and with the other hand picked up Eddie the gecko. During his inevitable struggle he would open his mouth for a few seconds during which time I dropped in the worm. You have to be very careful not to damage your pet and also so he doesn't take a nip out of your hand. They have very strong jaws so be careful, wear some gardening gloves if you want. Thankfully he started eating on his own after a few weeks.

are you giving him the same food that the pet store was giving him i would take him to the vet like you said that he lost his tail he might be sick or home sick but to be on the safe side i would take him to the vet

wow if he lost his tail the 1st day you got him your messing up big time. i have had a gecko for 5 years and he never lost his tail.
