my red slider turtle shells are gold2007-11-24 2:01:46

OK, I appreciate the answers to my last question, Thanks eneryone! But, now i have noticed the larger turtle (GIGI) has a golden hugh to her shell. I've never noticed this before and must say that while it's really beautiful, I have no idea whats going on.

Does anyone have an answer?

I hope some one on here as a good answer to your questions, I too own a Red slider! But I have not seen any gold on mine, I would like to know also, I will update this post if I find out any thing!

I've seen that on mine too! Especially around the edges of the scutes. I think it might just be the way the light hits it when they go through certain shedding stages (??)
It is possible to be the beginning stages of shell rot. I would have a vet look at it
i have one to its still a baby we named it Kasey but iv never seen that on mine although i am curious
If the water is dirty or oily, there can be a definite sheen to the turtle. I am not sure if this is what you are referring to or not, however.

The keratin of the turtle shell can show up as dofferent colors under different kinds of light, and can even create a bit of a rainbow effect- but this is usually only seen at certain angles.

Can you describe it better for us? Is the shell wet or dry? Is the normal color present under the gold? etc.

it's shedding, my two sliders just went through that a month ago.
