questions about burmese python2007-11-24 2:01:58

I have a few questions I need with short/easy answers about burmese pythons:

1. About how many feet per year should a healthy male and female burmese python grow? (especially the first 3 years).

2. If I have a male and female albino burmese, what percentage of the babies are likely to be albinos as well?

3. how old/long do male and females have to be before they could healthily breed?

4. If I feed them in seperate feeding cages, can I keep a healthy/clean ball python and burmese python in the same big cage, until the burm gets consideribly larger thant he ball? (the ball is about 18inches, and the burm is about 15inches. can they live together until the burm is bigger than the ball, or should I completely keep them seperate?)

I cant remember anymore questions I have right now.

Answers:

Ozymndius is right, for the most part, However BALL pythons (Python Regius) do not generally grow over 5 feet in length.A 6 foot Ball Python is HUGE and a 7 foot ball python is almost as rare a a 7 foot human! Burmese Pythons (Python Molorus Bivitattus) grow much larger and can grow to 9.5 feet in their first year/year and a half..females grow much larger than males. Males can top out at about 10-11 feet and females in excess of 15 feet..Some records of Burmese over 20 feet.but this takes years and years, and not all will grow that large. After the first 18 months, their grow thends to slow to about 12 inches a year til they reach either 11 feet for males or 13 feet for females, in my experience breeding them. This is under optimum care and the amount they eat will have effects on their growth. "Power feeding" animals will allow them to grow very fast but can have adverse effects on their long term health..Snakes do not eat regularly in the wild and time for digestion between meals..one week for juveniles and up to 2 - 3 weeks for a large meal for an adult is fine. Also, Albino + Albino = ALL Albino..if they carry genes for other morphs like "green" or "granite" they may pass those along to the offspring too.but they will all be albino either way. Also, snakes are not social so it is best to keep them seperate and for disease control..burmese often die from "The Burmese Disease" associated with mites that pass for snake to snake, killing them at about 3 years of age..so keeping them seperate would be benefitial.also, your burmese will grow large enough to crush your ball python in one year just by moving around the cage so its not a good idea to keep them together.
