there is a snake that lives in our attic.. its about 5 foot long, black with goldish scales kinda in a dimond pattern and when it gets touched it smells like burnt hair. i like in southern ohio if that helps anymore. please help me identify this snake so i know if i should get rid of it or if its good.
Answers:most of the people on this thread need to be shot.
its probably a rat snake.. leave it alone and it should take care of any rodent problem you might have.. next time you see it try to take a picture and post it if you want anyone to accurately identify the animal.
You might have A problem here! It sounds like an eastern diamond back rattler! I haven't a clue on how you would get rid of it! Good Luck!
There are only 4 or 5 poisonous snakes in the US - see this webpage for pictures: http://www.camo-store.com/us%20poisonous.
I think the question you need to answer is, is there only 1 snake? What if another shows up? What if they breed? What if they get in your ventilation shafts or plumbing or electrical systems. You don't have to kill the snake but you might consider having the SPCA or some other group trap and remove it.
.. get it taken care of NOW :|
try this, it might be the one you are looking for
