How can you tell how old a snapping turtle is??
Answers:There are several snapper owners on www.turtleexchange.com/forum There you will find answers to many of the questions about your turtles and meet some really neat people in the process.
Cut him in half and count the rings.
Ask a Herpetologist.
Usually tell the age of a turtle is done by counting the ridges on the scales or sections that make up the shell. You know the square or diamond shapes on the back. One yr for each ring or ridge.
The only way to tell for sure is to see it hatch.
You can guess by using a growth chart, like this: http://www.chelydra.org/snapping_turtle_.
