This specie turtle does not eat much vegetation, but is primarily a carnivore. Frozen pellets made of pureed beef containing melon, blackberries, powdered calcium and reptile pellets offers them a healthy diet. The water should be no deeper than they are long: they need to breath air.
Special treats for any kind of turtle include just about any kind of insect (crickets, june bugs, etc.) they just LOVE night crawlers.
Be sure you study info on your specie turtle to help it maintain good health. Since they are captive, they rely on you giving them the best possible care.

my turtle is 4 years old & every time STILL that i come into the room he jumps into the water. i think that they feel safer in the water. mine doesn't get out of the water all the time either. they do when they want to. my turtle's tank is over half full & has been that way since i have had him. i wouldn't worry about it. just make sure there is enough heat & you're feeding it correctly.
