we found a snake on my drive way and we don't know what it is.
it is very small, but it might be a baby.it has a long tail that thins out into nothing.it looks like a rattlesnake without its rattle. could someone out there try to tell me what it is then i could see an image and see if it was right. the person who answers this correctly will get my best answer(10 points.)
Answers:You didn't mention where you live, but it sounds like a gopher snake or a bullsnake. Take a look at these pics and see if it looks like this: http://images.google.com/images?q=gopher.
It's not a rattlesnake as rattlesnakes are born with one button on their tail.
Thanks for giving your location. Check out this site for all the snakes in West Virginia: http://www.marshall.edu/herp/pages/snake.
It looks like it could either be a Northern Brownsnake or a Northern Pinesnake.
it could be a rattle snake or a gardener snake,or mabe a bull snake.
a baby rattle snake has no rattle so its hard to tell sometimes..:)
could be a hognose(harmless), but you don't give the description of the head. It could be a water moccasin(poinsonous). Cottonmouth, etc. King snake, water snake. Check a wildlife site to be sure, just don't touch it if you don't know the species.
It could be a bull snake
