Crickets, other small insects. But on further note, if you found him in wild, leave him in wild. They tend not to do so well and you dont know if he has any diseases like salmonella. If you must, keep him only for a few days and let them go where you found him. You can buy salamanders/newts from any pet shop that sells reptiles for as low as 3 bucks. Dont mean to sound like a wet blanket.

There are several kinds of salamanders, but most eat bugs, or pretty much anything else they can shove in their mouth.

It is not usually a great idea to try to keep a found animal as a pet- they just don't do well with all of the changes.

I suggest keeping it for a few days and releasing it.
