what do i do when my box turtle hibernates2007-11-24 2:03:23Answers:

Hibernate with it? I don't know what you do. Are you sure it's hibernating? Are you sure it isn't dead? Have you checked it for a heartbeat or checked to see it it's breathing?

Put alot of food beside it so that after hiberating or during hibernating, she gets hungry, she will eat it.

Do not disturb it.But put somethings fo it to drink/eat or keep warm.

Leave some fresh water out and some of it's favorite foods. Although it's hibernating, sometimes your turtle will wake up for a little bit and when it does it will take in some food and water. Just watch your turtle everyday. Whatever you do, don't bother it unless you notice sometime odd.

put it in a cool dark place above freezing tempature, make sure it,s not to wet or dry and leave it alone, however when the weather warms up for good bring it out a few degrees at a time. better yet take it out in a wooded area and let it go. they are very hard to keep over winter

Depends on where this turtle is kept?

If it is outside yes it will hibernate.

If it is inside it will not hibernate because it is to warm inside. You can locate information on the net about hibernating your turtle

If you let your box turle get cold it will go into hibernation, if you keep it warm it will keep active . Set up a vivarium with heat and a UV lighting sytem and it will keep active all winter. Tutles only need to hibernate to survive cold winters because they are cold blooded. You will know that it is safe and well then and not worry about wether it is big enough to survive a long period of sleep.
