what do you do to get rid of mites on snakes2007-11-24 2:03:27

my albino burmese has mites under his scales. I used mite off and only a few died. are there any other products that will work or do i have to take him to a vet?

i would take it to the vet my snake died from them the vet has really good medicine but it was to late when they get under the scales they can get a bad infection like mine did and die so i would take it as soon as possible

snakes often get mites in the wild, to rid themselves of the mites they enter a termite mound, termites eat mites, hence the name TER MITES ,which is short for DETER MITES. hope i have enlightened you, now i must continue with my meditation for another 100 yrs till someone else needs enlightenment, peace..

There are several excellent products out there to kill mites. The most popular is Provent-a-mite. Be sure and follow the directions. You spray that in the cage and all cage furniture, then allow it to dry and air out before returning your snake. Get rid of all of the substrate and use paper towels or newspaper until you're sure they are gone for good.

Another good product is Reptile Relief. You apply that directly to the snake and it will kill all living mites on the snake, but not the eggs (Provent-a-Mite will kill the eggs).

You can also try some of the home remedies such as letting your snake soak in a lukewarm bath with a little bit of soap. However you often have to repeat it until all the mites have been eliminated, and this might take several days or weeks of repeated soaking.
