what is the best way to get a corn snake to feed2007-11-24 2:03:37

My corn snake wont eat. We got him sat night (Sunday is the day the pet store feed him), we tried on sunday and now today (Wednesday), we are feeding him pre frozen (defrosted) pinkies. What should we do? Thanks.

wait till he's hungry, snakes don't eat like most animals, ask the pet store what/how they use to feed him

Wait till this coming sunday and feed him again..he needs time to settle in.

Thaw the pinkie, smoosh itup a bit so it's a little bloody, place it in a sack or bowl, set the snake in the sack or bowl and leave them alone. (sack or bowl goes back in the snake tank of course)

Check with the pet store to see if they were feeding live or frozen. If they were feeding live, you're going to have to get your snake adjusted to eating frozen. You would start with a live pinkie. The next time you feed your snake, stun the pinkie so that it moves, but barely. After that try one that is newly killed, then frozen (thawed of course) with the top of the head cut (known as "braining"). If your snake is eating all of those fine, the next feeding you should be good with just frozen.

Does your snake have plenty of hiding places in his cage? Is there a heat lamp on just one side so that he has a cool side of the cage if he needs it? And is his temperature at a good range? If so, it might just be a matter of time. I'd give him another week before you try to feed him. He'll have had more time to adjust to his new surroundings and will definitely be hungry.

Your corn is in a new environment and understandably is going through a bit of stress. Give him at least a week of no handling and quiet relaxation time and you will find that once he is relaxed he will eat. They are excellent eaters once settled in their new environment. Also make sure that the pinkies are warm and defrosted all the way through.
