what should I do about my baby beareded dragon shedding2007-11-24 2:03:45

well I just want to know what I can do so it could go better or any suggestions and I think its also his first time shedding

Generally, reptiles don't need any help with their shedding. Once in a while however, they can have a bad shed. Make sure that no old skin is left on toes or tails as they can constrict and cause loss of digits or tail tips.

It's a pretty easy thing to do if such a thing occurs. You can soak them in enough water so that it covers their feet and they can keep their heads up, or you can spritz them with a water bottle to make sure that their bodies are wet for a little while. If for some reason they can't get the old pieces off themselves, you can give them a hand by rubbing the old skin gently till it comes off.

The one thing you have to make sure of is to find out why a rough shed has happened and correct it before the next shedding period. It could have been stressed, may have been to cold, to hot, not enough moisture in the tank (make sure you don't exceed the optimal humidity for the species for to long of a period). This way the next shed will go much smoother for you and the reptile.

Be sure there is something rough in the tank for him to rub against. The small hiding logs work great. After that, let him go. He'll take care of the shedding completely on his own. Never attempt to help a reptile with a shed without consulting a reptile veterinarian first. You can do much more harm than good!

You could definitely help him by taking off some skin which is quite close to coming off and really loose from the skin, dont force the skin off which could cause scarring and damage the dragon's skin, this happened to our dragon and it took a very long time to heal, you can also get a shedding product which you spray on that helps the skin come off easier.These sprays are usually available form reptile shows!
