what things can result in a turtle dying2007-11-24 2:03:51

can a turtle die form being stressed by maybe sharing a 10 gallon tank with another turtle? what diseases can a turtle come in contact with and how?

Answers:

The living environment can determine how healthy your turtle will be. If you have 2 turtles in a 10 gallon tank than you will have to clean it very frequently. Turtles purge (use the restroom) often and since they must drink the same water this can be very bad for them. I would advise getting a larger tank and a very good filter.

My turtle was a land and sea turtle and died in his tank. He got stuck under one of his toys and was dead by morning. Sorry bout your turtle
Turtles can die from all sorts of things, but the wrong kind of diet, a lack of clean water, and a lack of a sufficient heating source are the most common offenders.
Turtles don't just die from being stressed, even if their living environment is very small. They die from other reasons, and the stress makes it harder for their bodies to fight off those other reasons.

Your turtle might have died for any of the following reasons, so see which ones could apply:

You didn't provide it with a full-spectrum (UVA and UVB) basking light; if they can't metabolize calcium, then they die.

If it's a water turtle, you didn't provide it with a basking spot and heat lamp (if it can't climb out of the water to bask, its shell will get soft and moldy and infected, which could kill it).
