why is my iguana so afraid of me
i talk to him and i play with him plenty but i trid to get him out of his cage and he was freaking out i went to go put him back in and he dropped his tail ever since then im kinda scared of him. im not sure if he trusts me anymore how can i gain the trust back from him?
Answers:make sure you never grab him by the tail. Luckily his tail will grow back. It will not be as thick as the original, and it will grow back black instead of green, but it will regrow. It also will not be as long as it could be. Move slow when you reach in to get him. Try not to reach from above, make sure he can see your hand. Babies are very skiddish; if you think about it, you are huge to him! He thinks you are going to eat him! So, move slowly, talk gentle to him. He will start to trust you. Don't try to do too much at one time, take it slow.
Training an iguana takes a lot of time and patience. It could take as long as 6 months to get him fully used to you, so be patient. My youngest ig didnt have a tail when i rescued him, he is growing it back; and after 2 months of having him, he doesnt run when i reach in his cage, he lets me hold him.
Also, if you can put his cage in the living room, or somewhere where he can see people, it is better. That way he can watch you and see what your doing, he will get used to you faster. I used to sit outside his cage and talk to him; tell him how my day is going, etc. It got him used to my voice. Iguana's will get to know your voice, and some even know their name. Our oldest ig knows her name.
just remember to be patient! try to put yourself in his shoes.

It's a reptile; it's not meant to be caged or be your playmate.did you ever think of that?
Because you're bigger than him, and you're not another iguana.
i think you should put a leash around his stumic and try taking him for a walk around the house
it's a natural responce for him to agressive but i was'nt aware they dropped tail, must be a juvenile. handle properly for trust factor
