why is my leopard gecko not eating Its been the 3rd day since i got him2007-11-24 2:05:04

I just bought my leopard adult gecko and he's not eating yet. I know it's only been the 3rd day but I left him food and he's not touching it.

Answers:

First of all, let him adjust. He needs time to get used to his new surrondings. It also may be he has sneaked some food while you are not looking. If he continues to not eat for a week, take it to the vet. It may be a good idea to call the pet store and ask them how long exactly it usually takes for adjustment. I haven't had them myself, but I have had many other similar reptiles. Good luck!

I don't know too much about geckos, but how long ago did they eat last? My son's lizards eat crickets one day and can go quite a while until they need more.

What do you have your adult leopard gecko in? What is at the bottom? Paper?Sand?Mulch? What? Sometimes when they are mealworms, it is hard for them to find in certain substances on the bottom of the tank. Being also that you only got the gecko 3 days ago, I would give him a chance. They also love crickets(put Repto-Cal on it)and it's easier for them to get so if you are really worried or a lot of time goes by and he has not eaten, try them! They also need lots of water available too, but you will more than likely not see them eating as they like to come out at night more than during the day, hence, they are nocturnal.
