A friend for my guinea pig
I have a two year old female, and I know Piggys like to have friends so i was thinking about getting another female guinea pig. If I do, will they get along and how old should the new piggy be?
Answers:Guinea pigs have different personalities just like people do. Female guinea pigs usually get along no matter what type they are. But for the best choice, if your piggy is calm try to get another piggy that is also calm. Matching your piggy's personality to another piggy is probably the best way to do it.
This way you won't end up with pigs that don't get along. Ex: If you have a calm pig it's not a good idea to get one that is hyper because it will just annoy the calm one and vice versa.
I have pigs so I know how this works. Also sometimes if you get pigs and put them in separate cages but beside each other then you don't have to worry about their temperment and both pigs can talk to each other through the cages but at the same time have their own personal spaces.
Well if it were me I'd get another one. I'd make sure it was the same kind. I'd probably get a younger one so they don't both die at the same time! I hope this helps!
I'm so glad you want to get your piggie a friend!
A new female can be any age. Sows usually take to each other fairly well. Proper introductions can go a long way in facilitating this process, so read up on the different techniques. This site http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm... has some good information on introductions & quarantine. You will need to quarantine your new sow for a period of time to avoid giving your existing piggie any illness or parasites. A reputable rescue will have already done the quarantine process before the piggie's are released for adoption.
