A new rat cage
Okay, my rats (Nicky and Baby), need a new cage. I have a very small budget, but I want to get them a nice, roomy cage. Can you please give me some suggestions of cages I may be able to afford? I only have $40 dollars to do this with, and half of that is a gift card.
Answers:You will have an incredibly hard time finding a roomy $40 cage. Mine barely made the cut for the minimum size, and it was $100. If you want to check it out and can wait a bit of time before you buy it, here's the cheapest average sized cage I could find:

Something that's a lot more fun to do and cheaper is making your own cage. Take a look at this page, it gives a lot of ideas and examples.

My favorite is making a cage out of an old cabinet.

Some of the pages come with plenty of instructions. If those don't help you might want to look some more articles up online, I can't find the page I originally used. Making it can take a lot of work and time, but in the end it's very cheap and very roomy. Supplies can probably be found at a local hardware store.
Hope this helps!
I don't know, but get wire...my rats chewed through their plastic cages.
$40 isnt going to get you that far when you are trying to get a 'nice roomy' hamster cage. I would suggest saving a bit more (to have a total or $70) the cage i have for two female rats was $69 in the store but its cheaper if you order it over the internet.
