Another hamster question oh oh2007-11-24 21:57:33

hi i have a question and here it is i got to syrine hamsters about 1 month ago and i got them a 10 gallon tank and it was good then but they are starting to chew on the cage and keep getting out on top i got a screened top that goes on it and everything but the question is can i connect tubes to a ten gallon tank or can i get a free cage any where in ga or like classifed adds thanks

Answers:

You don't need a new cage, honestly, unless you really want one. Just set a rock or a paperweight in the center of the screen top. If they can't lift it, they can't get out.

As for the chewing, yeah, they do that, it's normal. Try getting them some wooden chew sticks from the pet shop, to distract them from chewing the tank.

Edit: And if the hamsters were raised together from a young age, they can get along just fine.

Okay, first off, it's spelled Syrian, and THEY ARE SOLITARY HAMSTERS, WHICH MEANS THEY WILL KILL EACH OTHER IS KEPT IN THE SAME CAGE. You need to separate them now before one or both of them wind up dead.

I'm not sure exactly what your question is. You want to know if you can connect another cage to the tank using tubes? Yes, you can.

Please get another cage and separate the hamsters now!

Edit: Rustyredwhatever is wrong. It doesn't matter if they were siblings and were never apart, when they reach maturity, they will become very territorial between each other and they will fight to the death, no matter how much room you give them. You need to separate them before they begin to fight.
