Aquarium, wire cage, or plastic cage for 2 Gerbils
I know that the plastic ones are hardest to clean, hamsters and Gerbils can bite through them sometimes and find ways to escape through the attachments.
With the metal cages (wire/metal) there is usually a wheel installed with it but you can completely smell everything because of how open it is. Plus, it's metal so it makes a lot of noise with the wheel and everything.
The aquarium looks the most boring, but it smells the best and has less of a chance that the pet can escape, plus you can buy a food dish and water dish, wheel, and other toys that make it look better. Plus they're the easiest to clean.
This is what I have found out through coustomer reviews and experience.
If you have GERBILS, since they bite on things in their cage so much, what things did you do?
If you have a GERBIL, did yours ever bite through or escape in a plastic or metal cage? That's why I am thinking that an aquarium would be the best idea- it's the biggest and easiest to clean, right? :-)
Answers:Gerbils are BRILLIANT escape artists, high jumpers, and energetic diggers/burrowers. A glass aquarium with a screen top will accomodate all of these issues. I've kept gerbils on and off for several years and I've always used a glass aquarium. Yes, they are very easy to clean and they don't have to be boring at all. Right now, my cage has a wooden gerbil house, a nice big gerbil safe wheel (they need a large one to accomodate for their tails), an edible hollowed out tree stump (fake, of course), a large chew that can be rolled around the cage, and a food dish and water bottle. It's a pretty neat looking set-up.
