I want to get a guinea pig but heard they can get stinky. But I think they are so cute and I want one.

Answers:

Actually, guinea pigs (also known as cavies) have no natural odor. In other words, they do NOT stink.

However, if you do not clean their cages regularly (as in weekly or more) the CAGE will stink. Because the pig lives in the cage, his/her fur will pick up the smell of the dirty litter.

That means if you keep the cage clean, the pig will not smell.

Yea, they are stinky and a hassle to take care of. I personally would not recommend you getting one, but if you want to put in a LOT OF TIME and effort you should do it, but it's not worth it just b/c they are cute! TRUST ME

Guinea pigs do not smell at all. If you smell anything from their cages, that means you are not doing a good job of cleaning their cage. Of course it is going to smell if the cage is drenched in urine! Larger cages don't need to be cleaned as often. www.guineapigcages.com shows you how to build huge cages that are easy to clean! Pet store cages are wayy to small. They are glorified litter boxes and need to be changed all the time.

I own 2 female piggies. They do not stink if you keep their cage clean. Spot cleaning every couple of days is recommended. And the entire cage should be cleaned once a week.
