Are hamsters healthier with 2 hamsters or one2007-11-24 21:57:57

are they happier and healthier?

Answers:

NO! Absolutly not! Hammies (sadly) are solitary animals. They tend to be VERY territorial and CAN and WILL fight to death.

I can tell you from personal experience... 6 years ago when i was 10 i got 2 hamsters and put them in a cage together.one started biting the other. We took the one that was attacking back to the store and kept the other one (SNOWBALL! =]])

You CAN however buy 2 hamsters in seperate cages.

Also if you WANT 2 hamsters together then you can TRY but they MUST be from the same litter (same mom and dad at the same time) and they would have had to be together from birth. They can be kept together as babies but as they get older they can go seperate directions...fight or become very close. you can NEVER TELL.

If you decide to do this then you can Stay awake with them for a week or so to make sure they DONT FIGHT.but why go through the hassle?

from what I've heard from my friend, hamsters can and will kill each other over time. So keep one and make sure you give it a lot of attention.

I think that having 2 hamsters is a good thing,but the backfire if you get 2 males they will fight until one dies.If you get a male and female it could turn out better.Also you might not want to get a male and female together unless you want to breed them.

Serians need to be kept solitary, however dwarfs can be kept together if they are put together while they're young.

If they are dwarf hampters they are a lot happier. If theye are the normal kind of hampters they tend to eat each other.

No, they will kill each other. Drawrf hamsters are mine together though. If you happen to get gerbils instead, get 2, because they tend to get lonely. So NO only get one hamster.
