Are rats good pets
Are rats good pets? Do they bite a lot? I want a friendly rodent that wont bite a lot and that likes to be petted and that that wont be hard to tame. I was thinking of a rat is that a good idea?
Answers:You already have lots of great answers and a few by people who haven't had the pleasure of knowing a pet rat. They don't know what they are missing.
I just want to tell you how loving they are.
I have one that needed medicine and frequent baths for a while. He was afraid of the water and would keep up this pitiful meeping, but he never even considered biting me.
Yes, I do think I can understand their thoughts, just as I think they understand ours Way more than we suspect.
Another one got stuck in a door of a box I had made into a rat-castle. He was panic stricken and tore off a claw, but while I worked to get him loose he didn't bite, and afterward licked me lots while I soothed his fear and dignity. He had put on a Little More weight than he knew.
They are such wonderful delightful creatures. You will fall in love with them. I love what someone said about their tails. It is also funny to watch the tail of a rat who has jumped, but landed on an unsteady surface! They keep their balance so well I almost wish I had a tail. Well, maybe a lovely furry one.

-- Rats are social animals. Many small pets don't like being handled, but rats get used to careful socialization easily, and come to enjoy riding in pockets and on shoulders. They like people!
