are they easy to take care of? Do you get borad of them quick?(i did with my gunipig) Are they expencive?

I LOVE rats!

I have my two girls who i have had for almost a year, and i recently saved 13 from becoming snake chow... Most of these are going to a friend of mine in Melbourne... But they are all going to have good lives!

They are fun! And they never stop being fun! They make you laugh when they do new or silly things, and they are able to be trained! (My girls go to the toilet in a litter tray!)

I have had mice and guinea pigs in the past, and rats are a lot more exciting, and interactive, and fun!

They ARE prone to Upper Respiratory Infections, and there is the likelyhood of tumours and the like... This is due to the fact that a lot of pet shop rats are heavily inbred, and so the health problems stay there throughout the genes... This doesn't stop me from wanting to buy them and rescue them from pet shops, but if you want a specifically healthy one, i suggest you hunt down a local rat breeder... Some of them will even fly the rats to you.

If your rat does have health problems, it is considerably cheap to get them looked at!

I don't know how much it costs in other countries, I live in Australia, but my local veterinary surgery does have a vet who specialises in exotic and small animals... It costs about $10 for a consult there, where as other animals (Dogs, Cats etc) might cost anything from $40 or $50, up to $90 or $100... And enough medicine to last them for a month only costs $20, so they are actually a lot cheaper to look after than other animals, even despite health problems!
