Are rescue guinea pigs healthy
i think im going to adopt a pair of baby rescue guinea pigs in stead of getting them from a breeder(never a pet store). i have done all my care research and just need to gather all my materials and get ready for them. i just wanted to know if at least most guinea pigs from rescues(texas rustlers GP rescue in dfw on theguineapigrescue.com for those who know it) are healthy so that i dont need to treat anything extra due to bad health and so they dont die. i would really like two normal, active and healthy guinea pigs. thanks
Answers:I don't know those specific rescues, but most animals from rescues are healthy. they've been vet checked and properly cared for by the rescue team(s). they want you to have the best possible animal, so that you and the animal will be happy, and they won't have to rescue it AGAIN.
Ask if there are any people who have adopted from them, that you can talk to, maybe even visit them, to see the pets they have received.
And Good Luck!
They should be fine, It is actually not a bad idea, they have probably been look at and are healthy.
I know some folks from Texas Rustlers and they are, to my knowledge, a reputable rescue group that vets their guinea pigs when they get them and only adopts them out when they are healthy.
For the most part rescue animals are taken care of very well.
