Are there such things as dwarf rat Spazrats can you answer this haha

Are they harder to come by?

Is there just a lack of growth or is it an actual breed?

Yes there are dwarf rats? When Dwarfs first started to be seriously bred, the male adult dwarfs were 3/4 the size of an adult "normal" male, and the female dwarfs are 1/2 the size of an adult "normal" female, and they looked like Standard rats only smaller. But in the few years since, some breeders are getting them smaller and some look more mouse-like...and man are they cute. There is no such thing as breeds of rats yet, so the Dwarf would be considered a Type, or Variety, of rat.

Dwarfs are not those babies that grow up to be really small adult rats that you find at pet stores. These pet store rats have been malnourished for a couple of generations, that's why they are so small. That's not how you breed for dwarfs.

I had three small rats from a pet store, and got some additional info about them after the purchase. They looked like the early dwarfs but I could never prove that they were genetically dwarfs.

Talking about genetics, you really need to get dwarfs from a reputable breeder otherwise there are health problems for these little guys. This does make them harder to come by, but these links will help you learn more about them, and who to get them from.
