Are thier every guinea pig in petco or pet smart is sick or every pet shop

can you show me what place to find a good pet store exectp pet finder i dont know how to go thier

When buying from a pet shop you need to look out for a few things:

1. Housing - if they are all squished into a small cage do not buy from there

2. Health - if some of them look sluggish, snotty noses, continously itching and scratching, mucky eyes, skin problems etc do not buy them

3. Age - do not buy guinea pigs from a pet store if they are too young or would have been to young when seperated from his/her mum

4. Sex - check to see if they seperate genders, if they have guinea pigs that are not seperated and they have already reached puberty then they may have mated and you may bring home a prego mum.

Not all pet stores are bad, some are like mills others are friendly and seriously care about the well being of their guinea pigs. I know my local pet store cares alot about the health of their animals.

Other than a pet store you can buy from a breeder or a rescue/shelter. Those brought from a rescue/shelter are often older (say 1 or 2 years old) but almost always healthier than those purchased from a pet store. Breeders are often good too, you need to make sure that they are not like mills, and that they care for their piggys. The breeder that I know takes time out of her day each day to handle each piggy, she has gained the trust of quite a few guinea pigs so she just gives them the run of the house!! Guinea pigs from a breeder are well looked after, fed well and happy.
