BabY hamsters
My hamster had a suprise litter of babies. When do I need to wean them? When can they go to their new home?
Answers:My hamster has just had eight babies and they have started to eat loads of solid food. The babies will start to eat solid food from 10 days old that the mother brings back to the nest. By16 days they should be able to take from a sipper and eat more solid food. And by 3 weeks they should be fully weaned and should be separated from the mother. And then they should be put in to single sex groups for another 2 weeks, and then they can go to new homes. They can go to new homes at about 5 to 6 weeks depending on their progress
From when the hamsters are born:
Time till weaning: 15 to 21 days
Removal of the young(separation according to sex): 21 days

i also had a surprise liter. as soon as the liter is big enough to be on there own you should seperate the girls from the boys. putting the mother in both off and on. i didn't do this and the girl and boy i hadn't given away decided they'd make a NEW SURPRISE liter which in that case the mother was to young to care for its baby and the newest ended up dying. just a little tip.

Number one. You don't wean them, their mother will do that. They can be removed from their mother at 21 days.
