My guinea pig just had a baby! When can i clean the cage and how do i take care of it?

Answers:

you can clean the cage at anytime after the birth is done but be very careful handling the new baby and you don't have to do anything for the newborn because the mother will feed and clean the baby. After about 2-3 weeks the baby should start eating and drinking on its own. Just be sure to keep the cage clean and give mom plenty of food and water with vitiamin c drops in it and plenty of treats=]

The momma will take care of it it wont nurse for long only a few weeks then will be eating food with the mom ..and yes you can clean the cage i did right after mine had babies a few years ago and if its a male you need to get it out of mommies cage right around the 3-4 week old mark or it could breed with her too
You can clean the cage in a day or two, but put in a layer of fresh litter (pine, not cedar) for mom and baby -- it's cleaner. Let the mom take care of the little one; don't touch it or anything till she's ready to let you! GP babies are pretty self-sufficient, so enjoy him. Make sure there's PLENTY of food and water for the mom.

Was there only one? That's a little odd. Usually they have litters. Good luck.

There is probably going to be more. I would leave them alone for about a week. Just what you usually do, then after that you can probably pick them up. Be careful the babies nibble.
Leave mama guinea pig alone to clean her baby. When you're sure there are no more babies to come, clean out any bedding with blood on it.
