Baby mouse
i just found a baby mouse in my barn and it is only like an inch big and its eyes are still closed and my cats killed the mom. what should i do? should i try to take care of it untill it gets a little bigger or just let it go?
Answers:Baby mice are incredibly difficult to keep alive without their mom. Even if you attempted to care for this baby mouse (formula, dropper feeding round the clock, heating pad, stimulating urination/defecation, and so on), chances are pretty high that the little guy will die anyway. Baby mice have a very high mortality rate, even in the best of circumstances. That's why mice reproduce so often (every 21 days).
If you do succeed in rearing the little one, he will be too tame to safely release into the wild again.
If you're really concerned, call your local DNR and see if they know of a licensed rehabilitator that might be willing to take the little orphan.
