Baby rabbits2007-11-24 21:58:18

my friends rabbit has had alot of litters of baby rabbit and she normaly has about 5/7 rabbits a time. but they never live longer than a week? the mum rabbit just kicks them out of the bedroom area and they get cold and die or she kills them herelf by biteing them? is there any reason why she is doing this? the mum rabbit has just had 7 more babys 1 of them has already died but six are still alive. its been about 5 days now? but she does not seem to be feeding them and she stays away from them nearly all the time, is there anything my friend can do to save these babys?

(i dont agree with breeding and i think my friend should stop, but i just want to be able to give her some good addvice and maybe save the baby that are still alive.)

please help!

As Curious Kid said, she might just not be a good mother...

Is the male left in the cage with her? Did she touch the babies? Did she clean the cage out just before the babies were born, or afterwards?

Rabbits are VERY temperamental when they are pregnant, or have just had their babies... They will not want another rabbit nearby, they will reject the babies if they have a scent that is not right(if she touched them!), the cage should NOT be changed about two or so days before giving birth (you will notice that she is building up a nest more that she usually would!) And should not be touched after the birth, until the babies start walking on their own, and eating on their own!
