Bed Fluff for small animals

Bed Fluff for small animals2007-11-24 21:58:20

I bought a package of SAMS Bed Fluff from Walmart. I put it in with my mice and they started eating it. Its 100% cotton, and the company says its safe but not to let them eat it. They eat everything. Do you think the company is just covering themselves. Will it hurt my mice if they eat it?

Answers:

It's not going to hurt them if they eat a small amount of it, but if they are eating a lot of it, then take it back out of the cage.

Most small animals really aren't eating it. It may look like it, but they ususally just shredd it up really well.

If you are sure they're eating it and it's a lot of it, then take it back out.

Try just giving them Aspen wood chips on the bottom of their cage and a cloth bed to sleep in and see how they act.

I hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!

Yes, definitely. It can clog their digestive system. Don't give any kind of fluff and use regular bedding for nesting material (no pine/cedar shavings!)
go back and ask them about it =]
Well, when they say "safe" they probably mean safe to lay on--not safe to eat. I wouldn't let them eat it...I think the little fibers might get stuck in their throats. =(
Never ever buy this product!

People have been campaigning for years to get this stuff banned. It is very dangerous if a hamster ingests it and there are cases of hamsters getting their limbs caught up and broken in this bedding.

The best possible thing to use is shredded up tissue (hamsters adore this) Or a wonderful product called care fresh which is pulped recycled paper. Sounds nasty, but is a fantastic product, and probably the most popular on the market.
