Bedding for Guinea Pigs2007-11-24 21:58:20

I have recently brought two guinea pigs. I also brought a new hutch, I spread newspaper throughout the whole thing and placed hay on top of the newspaper in their bedroom. I have to change it every 2 or 3 days as it gets smelly due to their businessess that they leave behind. I was wondering if there is anything that I can put in the hutch so that I dont have to change it so often, eg wood shavings.

CareFresh! *thumbs-up* It lasts about a month uncleaned (though I dont recommend doing it, lol!) I think its a good idea to clean the cage at least every 2 weeks anyway, but hey, carefesh you can leave FOREVER! never stinks (as bad as it could)!

Aspen without additives (no oils etc). Pine shavings come with too much dust, which isn't good for the health of your cavies.

Hey I had the same problem try puttin hay in their hutch they LOVE it. How do I know this? Well I had a guinea pig and she was sooooooo shy I put Hay in her Bed and she kpt on burrowing everywhere before she passed away she lived for 5 years and she was EVER so confident she loves hay

The hay or alfalfa is best but you don't need to mix newspapers. Buy your hay by the bail it is cheapest, or go throw rocks or tassle to get some free hay. The paper will get stinky and full of bacteria faster than the hay. Line it with a piece of wood not aluminium foil or cheap metal that will rust from the urine. Change the hay daily. Use a water bottle for feeding. Two will grow fast and large as fast as they can eat. Good luck.

i dont hav guineas yet so i dont really know but from my research carefresh is supposed to be the best. even though it is expensive it is reletively dust-free and is the most absorbent. if u can afford it get it!
