My Rabbit hasnt been drinking any water2007-11-24 22:13:43

I have a Flemish Giant Rabbit and we recently moved his cage to the basement where it is much cooler so he wouldn't get heat stroke, because its been so hot. He's been pooping just fine, but he's hasn't been drinking any water, but I have seen him urinateing a few times this week.

Again, check the water bottle.

Also, if the rabbit only eats pellets, it will need water. Rabbits which eat other foods besides dry pellets (such as greens) may require less water.

Check with your vet; I may be wrong. I have 1 rabbit myself; he used to be a wild rabbit, so this may be different, but sometimes he doesn't drink water for days at a time (I keep him outside; he chooses his own greens to eat--again, this may be dangerous for your rabbit). Maybe he still has wild instincts.

he may be stunned in the climate change. but have your vet look at him to make sure that he isn't sick!

Have you checked that your water bottle is working properly? Just check that it isn't blocked.

Is he eating normally? Overgrown teeth might prevent him from using a water bottle properly so you might need to get that checked?

Just a suggestion but if you're in any doubt you really need to consult your vet.

That is eqaxtly what happened to my baby rabbit!

I asked the vet and they said if your rabbbit eats it drinks!

A rabbbit will never eat with no water!

If you use the water bottle with a metal drinking tube, try switching to a bowl and vice-versa to see if he likes it better. I had a rabbit once who hated the water bottle, but drinks fine from a bowl. You can also feed 1/2 an apple or pear for extra moisture. Plus, bunnies love them!

On the other hand, he's probably just not as thirsty now that he's out of the heat. As long as he's urinating, he's probably alright.
