I got two Fancy rats from petsmart two days ago. and i left them alone in their new cage few about an hour. Then i tryed pickin them up and Ouch They Bite! i let then sniff my hand and everthing and no matter what i trie they still bite, and their really scard of me.. how Can i make them like me?

oh dear. sometimes it takes a while for rodents to accept people. Give it time. I think one of the best things you can do is not react when they bite you, but you have to get used to it. They might get to like you more quickly if you hand-feed them tasty things. I think you also have to put them in a position where they have some power over you. They're less cautious when you sit down and if you lie down they can poke and prod you and feel superior. Think about how vulnerable your ratties are... they are dependant on your kindness and have very little power, except for the power to give you a nip

I am so sorry this is happening to you. Petsmart should have told you how to approach your new pets. Bad Petsmart.

They do not hate you -they are afraid of you. They sniff you and that may be enough for now for them. Let them sniff you and see if you can simply touch them. If they let you do that - give them a treat then let them alone for a while. Rats are smart. They will want the treat next time.
