My hamsters getting old and shes started to act really strangely2007-11-24 22:13:27

I've got a 1.5 year old Syrian hamster called Sally. She's had a brill life, with me and my family always treating and petting her, and she's never had any health problems.

But now I know that she's getting old, but she's been acting really strangley:

*Drinking really slowly.

*Hoarding less.

*Staying motionless for around 5minutes, then run around her cage, turning her head as if she's using the sides of her cage and her toys as scratching posts.

*The roots of her hair -some whole hairs- are dark grey.

*Trying to escape more and more often[3+ times a day at the moment]

*Crouching small when you hold her.

*Pink and bald patches are behind her ears.

*Her whole coat is thinning, especially above her eyes.

*Deliberatly going to the highest points of her cage and letting herself drop, over and over again-She does that for hours.

*Tries to nip you when you try to stop her doing something.

Please give me some advice on how to deal with it, or how to stop her!!

At 2 years they usually expire. Continue to do everything you have been doing, it sounds like you have provided her with a great life.

That's almost as if it sounds like the hamster wants to commit suicide...lol. Sorry. Hopefully it's just normal.

I don't think you can stop her.Just let her be unless she is in pain then I think you know what you have to do.

well i am sorry to hear about your hampster i have one too so i know how you mit feel. but you could try to take her to the vet that might be your best bet.

What exactly is a brill life? The only reference I can find to "brill" in a dictionary describes an edible flat fish.
