her names niamh an i rescued her wen she was a few months old, she was kept in a cage with no food an it had bugs in because she was abandoned, locked away in the back of a second hand furniture shop, so i took her because she didnt have long left to live. she was really thin an jumpy, an no1 could hold her, but i felt really sorry for her an so i took her, named her an bought her a big cage an looked after an she got really strong an put on weight. shes really healthy and loves being held now. shes now about 4 years old which is quite old i think, an recently i noticed one of her eyes wer closed. then it started 2 go sticky an puss started 2 come out, an shes suddenly got reli slow an weak, an shes losin some of her hair. shes still eatin an drinkin water but her breathins reli weird, its as if her nose is blocked, she strugles 2 catch her breath an she looks like shes fitting sumtimes. i clean her eye with warm water an cotton wool each day an keep her cage an food an water fresh.

I nearly cried reading that first bit, I just can't understand how people can be mean to animals.

You've done a really good job and you should be really proud of yourself, you've given that hamster a really good life.

Unfortunately though, she is very old, 4 years old is a terrific age for a hamster, they normally only live for 2 - 3 years.

I think you should take her to the vet, he/she can check her over and they might suggest that the best thing to do would be to put her down. I know it's really hard, but it's better then her getting to the point where she's suffering.
