My hamsters strange, i just cleaned her cage and she

I havent had her long and this is the first time i cleaned out her cage when i put her back in she went mad pushing her nose all around the cage and then in her food bowl, kept runing her nose through until it was nearly empty.

all so when i bought her it was males and females in the cage, what if shes pregnant? when i pick her up what if i pick i baby up, u aint meant to touch them so what if i do and she eats them? what signs do i look out for?

Routing around in the fresh cage and food bowl is normal I've had plenty of hamsters as proof (also that "don't touch the babies bit" really depends on the hamster, it's personality, and whether it accepts your scent or not. My brother had a hamster that had babies and when we cleaned out the cage we picked them up by the skin on the back of their neck (like the momma's do) and put them in a little container when we put everyone back in the "new" cage the mom put all her babies in her pouches and suffocated them!

on another note I've had very friendly hamsters that let me pick up their babies...hold them in the palm of my hand...even examine them and put them back...no problems she'd just clean them and start nursing again.

If you don't wanna take chances though...if she already has babies and you wanna clean out the cage put her in (whatever you normally do) then take a paper towl and gently pick up the babies with that (this prevents your scent from rubbing off on them) and gently place them in a little contaner...then clean out the cage and put THE BABIES back in first then the mother (and don't panic if she doesn't like where you put them and grabs one and runs all over the cage with it (that's normal too)she'll eventually put it down and bring the rest.
