My hamsters tail is bleeding Will he likely recover2007-11-24 22:13:30
I just noticed it this morning. Only the end of it (probably 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch) is bleeding. He doesn't seem to be itching or scratching it. I am not putting creme on it or anything. Do you think he will recover?
Answers:It will be fine. If it gets worse, you might wanna put a spec of cream and a band-aid.
I think he will be fine. I have a rat with a nervous habit of chewing on her front feet til they are bloody. Would consider getting "chewies" to put in the cage to distract from the tail issue. Would not use any creams as they can do more harm than good if digested and a small hamster does not require much to get sick. Try untreated pieces of wood or a salt wheel. Both can be purchased at the pet store.
no
They probally will. My hamster's stomache is torn open (i know its gross, and the vet won't do anything about it) and she's been living with it for months now, and is appearantly happy.
Your hamster most likely got injured on something in the cage or if there's another hamster, that one did the biting. Apply some Neosporin or some Bacitracin to the end of the tail. Make sure the litter in the cage is dry and pretty clean and the hamster should be fine. If another hamster bit that one, the best thing to do is to remove the other hamster to another cage.
