My local pet store isnt efficient Is petco2007-11-24 22:13:33

My local pet store doesn't seperate any of it's rodents along the lines of male/female. which infuriates me!! So, does Petco or Petsmart?

My local petsmart does separate the two and in the event they don't someone in the store should be able to differentiate the between the two.

I think both only carry one sex of rodents- either males or females, but not both, to try to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Petco does seperate them, although I am a frequent customer and on most visits there have seen a male mixed in with the females or vice versa. Most of the time, they are too young to even reproduce, but still, if I wanted a chance of babies, I would do it on my own! I don't need it done for me!

They do if they have room. I dont have much experience with petsmart since the closest one is about 45 minutes from me, but there is a petco on almost every corner here. Im not a fan of theirs. They dont train their employees and will hire anyone, experienced or not. I had a girl tell me once that a ferret was a rodent and I just stared at her. I was dumbstruck. How could you work at a pet store and not know what the animals are! *sigh* They are a lost cause to me which is why I refuse to work there. Insead I work at a privately owned pet store where everyone is trained and tested weekly on their knowledge about the pets. We also need to know all the products so we can recommend the best food or toy or whathaveyou. Unfortunately we do not separate our makes and females either. But our department, small animals, once we notice a pregnant female she gets set up in her own cage and is pampered and well cared for. Anyone that may end up with a pregnant female is told and we will take the young as our own responsibility. If it has to be this way, Im glad Im one of the people that can make sure its done right.
