My lop eared bunny has white discharge coming out of his left eye, any suggestions besides the vet

He is in the same huge cage with his sister, they are fixed by the way, and I don't know what is causing his eye to be runny. I don't know if I should separate them cause they are so close to each other (I had to adopt them together), but I don't want her to catch anything. Help!

Since it is a white discharge, it is from an eye infection. The longer this goes untreated, or treated improperly, the more you risk permanent damage to his eye. Some things you can home treat to some extent but I don't fool around with eyes. They're too sensitive.

Tetracycline and teramycin are not appropriate antibiotics. They are too weak and have been used for too long (which means many strains of bacteria are resistant to them), and I don't know any rabbit savvy vets that actually prescribe them any more. The most commonly used antibiotic at the moment is Baytril (enroflaxin), which is given orally. There are a couple other possibilities too. A rabbit savvy vet will know best.

And I do recommend that you bring the rabbit in instead of just asking for the drugs. It's possible that his tear duct is plugged and is the root cause for the infection. A vet will be able to tell if it is by an good examination. If it is, the vet will flush it to clear it out. This can not be done at home.

You don't need to separate the two rabbits. The other one would already be exposed, and most rabbits have been exposed to these bacteria anyway. They don't usually get sick until something allows those bacteria to grow.
