i cant wait two years to get rats in two years. when i was in 1 grade i got 2 hamsters in separet cages when my mom was cleaning the cages i asked if i could help and she said no. then a year and a half passed and they bothed dyed:( i was crying for days then everybody on petqna.com said a rat was a good pet. so i asked her if i could get a pet rat and she said in 2 years and i cant wait that long what should i do to convince her?

It might depend on age. The best way to convince your mom that you're old enough and responsible enough to have a rat is...

1. Help out around the house. Not just for a week, but for the rest of the time you live there. You're going to be responsible for another life. Regardless of how you feel at any given time, that life demands respect and attention. Boyfriend dumped you and you feel like you want to die? Tough, that cage still needs cleaned at least twice a week and your rat needs playtime with YOU every day.

2. Do a LOT of research on rats and provide your mother with a report. Did you know that rats can be box trained? And that they're some of the cleanest, smartest pets you can buy? There's a MILLION other facts out there that people don't know. There's different breeds of domestic rat that you can get - Hairless, Rex (curly hair), Dumbo, etc. You'll also come across health information. Did you know that rats are prone to tumors and cysts? But that if you take extremely good care of your pet, they can live as long as five years? (Personal experience, there... and I'm always sad that it wasn't longer. It's cruel that they have such a short life span, really.) A report provides irrefutable information, showing that you're knowledgeable about the subject.
