My pet mouse has a large lump on her side from her front to almost her back leg What is it2007-11-24 22:13:37

she is eating, drinking, and playing. There was no sign of this a week ago, and i think its very large for a weeks time. It is a little soft to the touch. Is this cancer? What should i do? From what ive read it seems it will take her life. How long do you think she might have to live? she is probably a year or 2 old. The only new thing ive given her was a carrot chewable treat. Could this have caused it?

I believe it is a tumor. Female mice are prone to getting them. Kudos for taking such good care of her that she lived for so long! There really is no telling how much longer she will have to live, but it sounds like you are giving her a great life so far!! Just keep her comfortable and away from anything that might cause her stress.

congrats...2 years old is old for a mouse.I believe it is cancer to be honest. It seems to be growing quickly and that is not a good sign...my best advice enjoy her while you can and be proud that you took such good care of her

I had the same thing on my dwarf hamster, and it grew HUGE. I took him to the vet and they drained the lump (it was a tumor, but not cancerous) They gave me medicine to give him, and it didnt cause him pain. This was about 7 months ago. They told me he had about 6 months left to live, and he died yesterday :'(, but he did live an extra month. I dont know if this is the same on your mouse, but i do know they only live about a year 1/2 so youve already got a really old mouse. If you are that worried about it, take her to the vet, but old rodents do get lumps like that. If im right about it, she should be fine and old age will be what will kill her
