My pet rat always runs down my top2007-11-24 22:13:38

Well I have a pet rat and everytime I get her out of her cage she runs out of my hands and up then down my top and she stay's like that for ages and when I get her out she looks around for a minute or two then she runs back down my top again. How can I make this stop? And why does she do this?

A rats natural instinct is to burrow and hide! You should feel honoured and happy that it feels so safe around you, that it "burrows" into your clothes!

It also sounds like she's a bit lonely too, being left alone all day and when you pick her up, the first thing she wants is to cuddle next to you. Try getting her a companion if you have the room, I'm sure she will thank you for it! Rats are VERY social animals and getting her a friend will help her mentally as well as physically. :)

Ive had pet rats for years,,they are the best pets ever,,they love to hide down your shirt where its safe and cosy to them.

My first rat I had for 4 years and she was on her own but she didnt mind in the least because she was spoilt rotten and very much loved and she also showed that love back to me !

Rats love to burrow and hide. You wont get her to stop, she is happy there. We lay on the floor or the bed and ours climb up inside our shirts and curl up next to our bodies.
