My pet rats fur is falling out & he itches alot, what can I do
It sounds like a mite problem. You'll need to take it to the vet to verify as the hair falling out can also be a sign of ring-worm or alopecia. Ring-worm can be spotted as a black ring on the animals skin. If it has ring-worm, take to the vet for treatment, wash your hands very thoroughly under hot, but tolerable water. And completely disinfect the cage with bleach, but let it air out prior to putting the rat back in it. If it is mites, you'll want to check with the vet to see what type they are. If they are red-mites, they are able to be passed on to every and all living things in your household.
Your over-all best bet is to get to a vet to be sure of what the cause is.

You might want to take him in to see a vet when you get a chance, because it could just be something you could treat with an over counter med. But you want to make sure before you use anything if it's safe for your rat.
shave him, then scratch him all over. repeat as necessary
well by the sound of it, he is sick. But then again, if the cage isnt kept clean, this could cause his fur to fall out and itch. Please if the cage is dirty, clean it asap. If his fur doesnt start to grow back in 3 days but 5 days at maxinum, please take him to the vet or call the vet office for advise.

It could be ringworm or mange, both of which can be transmitted to humans; or it could be an allergy, or a nutritional deficiency, or a hormonally active adrenal tumor. It's a tough call from here.
Take him to a vet. Rats are pretty sensitive when it comes to what sort of meds you can give them, and if you don't get something to stop the itching, it's likely he'll scratch himself and those scratches will become infected.
I am curious how old he is.I would say he's in ill health you can get a vet check but please remember rats only live a couple of years maybe 3 when they are healthy.
