Have both got some sort of respitory illness.

Bubba is alrready quite developed in his, and Harry is starting to get wheezy as well. I have human antibiotics, which I can easily open up and use the powder from, is this suitable?

Both secrete porphyrin. I'm afraid they live in a garage, as they aren't allowed inside, but at night I wrap their cage up with blankets upon blankets and then put a plastic cover over the top (with a gap from ventilation). I take them out for about an hour and a half a day (and I take them outside for this, generally). I clean their cage once a week, they used to have blankets as bedding, but it became too costly, so now I keep them on newspaper, however I have rags which I have shredded for them to use as bedding.

Is there anything I can do to make their breathing easier? Can I use human-antibiotics that I can dilute?

You sound like such a caring person. I understand how you feel about your rats. I had guinea pigs and they were my babies.

It's too bad that you have to keep Bubba and Harry in the garage.that is not a good environment for them.

It sounds like they are very ill. I wouldn't mess around with home remedies.

You would need to take them to the vet. But it needs to be a vet who specializes in caring for small pets. They're out there. Just look in the yellow pages. That would probably be the only thing that would save them at this point. I hope it all works out.

sweet heart im sorry to say these babes need to be inside a garage is too hot in the hot weather and too cold in the cold it is a place of extremes and even wild rats dont cope with extremes, a garage is a dusty space and also, you dont say, but if its used for cars as well theyre battling fumes on a daily basis
