My rabbit starts wheezing and snorting everytime we try to pet or feed her Why is she doing this2007-11-24 22:13:44

It's a female, naturally small, (yet fat) and she has had one baby rabbit, but it died. But even before that she was psycho and tried to bite me (and succeeded) when I tried to feed her. She does this everyday, but she doesn't try to bite me anymore cuz I,m the only one of the family that has learned to snatch her food bowl before she rips my finger off, so she refrains from biting, even though she still gets mad and still wheezes and snorts. But she still tries to bite all the other members of my family.

She's such a beautiful rabbit, but we seldom get to pet her.

Almost every night she thumps and rips the paper we put in her cage, but she doesn't do this very often in the daytime. My other rabbit (Small , male) Doesn't act like this.

Answers:

I cannot tell you why she does this, I just know that some rabbits are this way. I have dealt with many nice rabbits and a few psycho/mean ones. I would think that there is some way to train them but I do not know any tips sorry.

Just by chance she is not a white rabbit with red eyes is she?

Hmm she may be allergic or not like a certain smell. Try to always wash your hands before you put your hand near her. Maybe even try and rub some of her bedding on your hand to give it a familiar smell.

she hasn't had the human attention she needed in order to be friendly she is doing this to try to scare you away ... if she is still Farly young you just have to keep giving her attention and she will get used to you... it will take a lot of attention...if she is older then there really isn't anything you can do. she is stubborn and will not let you near her with out a fight.

freaky. maybe get a rabbit book? ask a vet? shes possibly just very territorial and snorting and wheezing is some weird defense thing, or like a "back off" signal
