My rat eats chicken
My rat loves chicken. Is that normal?? Is it good for them?
Answers:Rats are omnivores like us. Rats need animal protein. You can provide this with a little cooked fish, meat or chicken once a week. Cooked chicken is an excellent source of protein for pet rats.
Contrary to this myth that has gotten around, eating meat
DOES NOT turn rats "cannabalistic".
Another myth is that rats love cheese. Most pet rats are lactose intolerent so cheese is a cautionary food, along with milk.
Save your bones from any meat, not fish, you have eaten for supper and give them to the rats. Unlike cats and dogs who crush bones and suffer the splintering problem, rats GNAW on bones and so don't suffer the same concequences. The bones add calcium to the diet and occupy the rats as they chew on them.

Edit:
Rats bite for a variety of reasons and this has nothing to do with feeding them meat. Some of these reasons include, but are not limited to:
Becoming territorial
Mothers protecting their babies
Moving too fast and scaring the rats
The smell of unfamiliar people sticking their hands in their cage.
