My rats nails got riped off :(2007-11-24 22:12:59

and i was wonderin if any one knows about rats and if i should take him to the vet

Answers:

If your rat is bleeding, use styptic powder (available at most pet stores) or corn starch to stop the bleeding. If you cannot stop the bleeding, it would be a good idea to take your rat in to the vet.

If you can stop the bleeding, then I would suggest, over the next few days, keeping an eye on your rat's toes to make sure that there is no infection growing. It would also be a good idea to try to keep the wound(s) as clean as possible.

well if there isnt a lot of blood he should be fine

dont take him to the vet right away.

wash him off with some water and just observe him closley

it you dont see any improvment maybe call a vet and ask what to do. i have to male rats and they are vey sweet. one is hairless i lov them so much. arent rats just the best rodent??

unless you are completly positive he is damaged or hurt, take him to the vet

most times people dont take the time to observe and wach how they are healing. again dont take him unless oyu are psitve he is injured

yes take him to a vet, it is a very comman thing to happen but your vet should check him over and make sure he hasnt damaged his paw.

First, is he bleeding? If so put flour on his toes to stop the bleeding. If the bleeding stops, and he is not in pain, monitor him for signs of infection. Keep his cage clean, and as little contact with urine and feces as possible. If there is and swelling, drainage, redness at the site, call a vet.

Its always best to take him to the vet to sanitize his fingers. And to make sure he'll be ok. Its only like 40 bucks to take him in. Good luck

If it's not bleeding you're probably o.k. If it's bleeding you need to put some flour or a cauterizing substance on it. Keep an eye on it, but it's usually not too serious.

Don't take him to the vet yet. Observe him after you make sure that he isn't bleeding anymore. You should go to the Pet Store and get some powder and things- they have powder and bandages and such that can stop the bleeding when that happens.
